Salt Lake Tribune Manufactures Outrage, Rep Steve Handy Smears His Opponent
Bryan Schott proves once again that he's an activist not a journalist.
Recent controversy over use of the word "trannies" (RuPaul loves the word) was stirred up by Bryan Schott, a tattletale journalist from the Salt Lake Tribune.
Schott manufactured outrage over a single word spoken by Republican Trevor Lee, a candidate for the Utah House of Representatives. A word Mr. Schott censored in his own article but freely uses on Twitter. When he’s quoting a Republican candidate Bryan keeps the word posted. However when he uses it in other context, and gets called out by one of his ideologically aligned Twitter followers for “transphobia”, Bryan promptly deletes the tweet.
It all started when Utah House Republican Candidate Trevor Lee used the word while appearing as a guest on the Modern Conservative Podcast. At one point the discussion turned to Spencer Cox and his veto of a house bill preventing transgender athletes from competing in girls sports. When the host asked Lee if he was aware of Governor Spencer Cox’s approval rating Trevor asked “was that before or after he vetoed a bill for trannies?”. The Salt Lake Tribune activist then used this one line quote to generate outrage among Utah’s most vocal left wing residents.
Upon hearing of the supposed uproar defeated State Representative Steve Handy attempted to throw gasoline on Schott’s engineered controversy and gin up support for a long shot write-in campaign during two separate interviews on KSL. In his desperation to retain political power Steve Handy smeared his opponent along with the Modern Conservative Podcast as "racist" and "white supremacist" on KSL News Radio. Even though race and white nationalism were never mentioned in the original podcast conversation this didn’t seem to be a problem for Steve Handy who, later that same day on the KSL At Night podcast, doubled down by repeating his race-baiting lies. Unfortunately for Steve Handy this line of attack will most likely be unsuccessful and could possibly backfire due to a fact he may not be aware of. Modern Conservative Podcast host Jon Harvey is neither racist or a white supremacist. He happens to be a black man.
All this drama over a single word. A word that is common vernacular in the LGBT community. Living in Seattle for 20 years I came to know, work with and befriend many people in the LGBT community. I have interviewed, hired and interacted with transgender individuals. We’ve had political discussions, shared meals, jokes and many humorous moments. This word is frequently used conversationally and as friendly slang between LGBT individuals. I do understand that it can be used hatefully but I have never seen someone who is part of that community take offense. The only people I see expressing outrage are those who wish to weaponize its use against political adversaries. Holier than thou individuals who want to tear down others or engage in cancel culture. I see this controversy for what it is and I believe the majority of Republican voters will too.
But don't take my word for it, listen to RuPaul who "loves" the word.
